After almost 24 hours of flying I arrived in La Paz at about 6 am this morning. Carrying my bags down the stairs off the plane made my heart beat harder than it does when I do an intense work out at home! The thin air is very noticable, the slightest exertion causes me to have a shortness of breath.

I couldn’t be happier with my homestay. Me, Sarah, Christine and Cindy live with Isabel Canelas and her six year old daughter. Isabel is very welcoming and knows a little English, which is very helpful for me as I learn more Spanish. We have a beautiful view from the many windows in our apartment, although you can’t see a lot past all the buildings in the densely packed city, the mountain tops are not far off.

Today we just get the day to rest, and tomorrow we have orientation of the city and the hospitals that we will be working in. Until then, ciao.
